The Online Catalog

CatalogThe online catalog is more than just a way to find books. It serves many functions, including a way to access your account, a way to reserve items, as well as a way to keep up with your currently checked out items. The Jefferson County Library Cooperative provides a guide to help you learn how to use the shopping cart feature of the online catalog. Likewise, there is a Frequently Asked Questions page that might help you if you have a question. Recently, there have been additions to the online catalog that allow you to write reviews on books.

Renewals

Renewals can be done in several ways. Items owned by the Hoover Library may be renewed one time as long as there are no outstanding reserves, except items from the Popular Video and DVD Collection which are not renewable or reservable. As part of a countywide policy, we renew items only once. It is necessary to have your library card with you when renewing an item in person or by phone. The automated telephone renewal number is 226-3790. Patrons may also call the Hoover Public Library at 444-7800 during normal library hours or may renew online. Information Regarding Renewals

Renewing your own materials is a contract between you and the Jefferson County Library Cooperative's libraries that you accept a new level of responsibility for material you have checked out. If you are using AOL or an older version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may have trouble renewing your items.

Your Responsibilities Regarding Renewals:

If you renew item(s), you are confirming that you still have each item. Therefore, before renewing, you are responsible for carefully matching material (on the next screens) that you plan to renew against library material in your possession. Immediately report any discrepancy to the library from which the material was checked out.

After clicking "renew," you must examine the STATUS column for each book to determineĀ if it has actually been renewed. Some types of material can never be renewed, including:

  • items reserved by another patron and marked HOLD on the screen
  • items checked out for less thanĀ seven days
  • items whose loan policies do not allow renewal, such as some videos and popular books, etc.
  • items already renewed once

If it has been renewed, note the new due date for your records. If it did not renew, return the material promptly. NOTE: Even if you do not notice that an item did not renew, you are responsible for any overdue fine.
