March is the month that we commemorate and encourage the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. With the presentation of the Golden Globes last Sunday, we saw some records achieved by women actors, directors and producers. In particular, three women, Regina King, Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell were up for the prize of best director - a first for females. Chloe Zhao won the award for her work at the helm of the quiet but original film Nomadland starring Frances McDormand. Zhao is the first Asian female director to win the award. We also saw a lot of films with strong female leads such as On the Basis of Sex, Wonder Woman 1984, and Carol in the past few years.
