7 Things You Need to Know About Insatiable Readers

The first rule of Book Club is: you DO NOT talk about Book Club. The second rule of Book Club is: you ignore the first rule and definitely tell all of your friends about Book Club! The book club in question is known as Insatiable Readers and is less like a traditional book club, and more like a bookish social club. I talked with book group leader Pam to get the inside scoop on the library’s newest group and here is what you need to know:

  1. There’s no homework!

That’s right! A book club where you don’t have a required reading for each session! Insatiable Readers aim is to introduce and discuss a wide variety of new nonfiction books during each session. Didn’t read any books worth talking about lately? Great! Pam has done the hard part for you and prepares for each meeting with a cart full of great book recommendations on the day’s topic. You've read an awesome book that you can’t wait to tell everyone about? Also great! Pam emphasized that, due to the social nature of the club, it's not uncommon for the group conversation to go off on wild tangents and talk about books from all topics and genres.

  1. A great way to be informed.

Everyone has that one well-read friend who knows a little bit about everything and after a few sessions with Insatiable Readers, that friend can be you! Monthly topics vary and have ranged from “Celebrating Women’s History” to “Armchair Travel.” Come get informed with us and maybe even find your new favorite book!

  1. There’s free coffee!

That should be enough said, but in case you’re like me and need a little more convincing, the club coffee provided is no run-of-the-mill coffee, but instead an artfully crafted brew from the amazing team at East 59 Vintage and Cafe!

  1. Nonfiction is fun!

Though sometimes associated with history books, our Nonfiction Department has way more to offer than you think! Pam does a great job of including books that appeal to people of all ages from all walks of life! Some recently discussed titles include bestsellers like Amy Schumer’s The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo and Margot Lee Shetterly’s Hidden Figures. There is something for everyone!

  1. You don’t have to host!

When you tell your family that you're joining, they can breathe easy. Unlike a traditional book club, Insatiable Readers is hosted at the Library Plaza every month. Having a set venue means that there is no lingering dread of inevitably having to host at your house… those dust bunnies under your couch can live to fight another day.

  1. No strings attached.

There are no sign-ups or fees associated with attending this club! Whether you are a first-timer or a book club regular, all are welcome to join in on the great conversations.

  1. Last but not least...

Did I mention there is free coffee?

We would love to have you join us! Insatiable Readers meets one Saturday every month at 10:30 am in the Reading Room of the Library Plaza. For more information, please call (205) 444-7840.
