Mary Poppins Returns
Mary Poppins was one of my favorite childhood movies. I loved the songs, especially the ones that involved dancing with animated penguins or leaping about on rooftops with chimney sweeps. I didn't think anyone could ever fill the shoes of Julie Andrews, but I think that Emily Blunt actually did it! Mary Poppins Returns blows into theaters this weekend, and it looks supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! It takes place years after the original story. Now an adult with three children, bank teller Michael Banks learns that his house will be repossessed in five days unless he can pay back a loan. His only hope is to find a missing certificate that shows proof of valuable shares that his father left him years earlier. Just as all seems lost, Michael and his sister receive the surprise of a lifetime when Mary Poppins -- the beloved nanny from their childhood -- arrives to save the day and take the Banks family on a magical, fun-filled adventure. The star-studded cast also includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, Angela Lansbury, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, and Dick Van Dyke. Make this movie magic part of your holiday weekend.
Don't forget the books that inspired both movies! Find all of the titles in the Mary Poppins series under J TRA in the Kid Zone at Hoover Public Library.
