The book Modern Women by Kira Cochrane is a small book that could be easily over-looked. The cover, featuring photos of several women, draws you in. The women are all very different but they all have two things in common, they are all women and are they paved the way for others.
Cochrane covers 52 women who were pioneers in their field. Even though the book is titled Modern Women, many women from the distant past are also featured. The book go as far back as 1593, with the birth of Artemisia Gentileschi, an artist. Cochrane cover women from all over the world, from the United States to India. In each section of the book, the woman’s name is given, a picture of the woman, what the woman is known for, and then, for about two to three pages, the woman’s story is told. The stories are filled with quotes from the women themselves and quotes from others about the women. The book is 230 pages long, not including the index.
