The underdog comedy series that became a hit: Schitt's Creek
If you are like me, I savored the last season of the sleeper hit, Schitt's Creek. This series came onto my radar around season two. I binged and fell in love with the Rose family. At first I wondered what trajectory this riches to rags family comedy would take. At first the characters seemed completely vapid and unlikable. However, with the power of stellar writing and wonderful actors like Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy, this sardonic sitcom quickly became my favorite obsession. In between bingeing seasons, I found myself seeking out books with the same quirky characters and witty storylines. I found The Family Fang by Tennessee author Kevin Wilson. I devoured Where'd You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple. These outrageous and offbeat stories and characters soothed me until a new season of Schitt's Creek became available. I love the obvious unique connection between the family and their journey to a more self-fulfilled life. However, now that the finale/sixth season has come and gone, I need to find a new obsession. Luckily I work in a building full of dreams and magical creations just waiting to be read. And if you stay tuned, maybe I'll share a few of my new favorites in the future!
