We Can Make a Difference
Food for Fines is an annual food drive organized by the Public Libraries of Jefferson County. For the entire month of September, you can donate non-perishable food items to the Hoover Library or any Library in Jefferson County.
All donations go to local food banks. As long as the items are non-perishable and have a good expiration date, we will take them. As a thank you, we will waive $1 dollar in fines for every item donated up to $10 per card holder.
Why is this important?
It's important because hunger in Alabama is a real issue. Many families simply need help putting food on the table. This campaign gives our patrons and the community an opportunity to support their local food banks, which helps feed those in need. It's a great way to make a difference in the community.
How can I make a difference?
The best way to make a difference is to give. Often, patrons bring food when they don’t have any fines on their account. They give because they care and want to help their community. Just one can of soup can make a world of difference to someone that is in need. It’s why our motto is “We Can Make a Difference!”
Where are the donations going?
Each library donates to a specific food bank or banks of their choice. The Hoover Library is in partnership with Green Valley Baptist Church, located right down the street from us.
What can people do to help or find more information?
Bring in donations and share this opportunity to give with family and friends. Ask them to bring donations as well. It’s going to a great cause! For more information, call the Hoover Library at 205-444-7800.
