Rob Alley Quintet with Jil Chambless

Rob Alley Quintent with Jil Chambless performs An Alabama Songbook, featuring selections from Byron Arnold's "Folk Songs of Alabama."

Arnold, a professor at the University of Alabama from 1938 to 1948, spent much of his time traveling and collecting folk songs from throughout the state. His book, FOLK SONGS OF ALABAMA, was published by the University of Alabama Press in 1950 though he had moved on to USC by this time. It is believed that many of these songs would have vanished into obscurity if not for Arnold's efforts.
