39 Clues -- The Mystery Revealed!
The Hoover Public Library hosted its second Reader's Passport: The 39 Clues last night. So we can finally reveal what the fuss was all about!
Our summer book club focused on the popular series The 39 Clues. There are eleven books in the current series, and a spin-off series kicks off this fall. The titles have been penned by various popular authors, including Rick Riordan, Gordon Korman, Jude Watson, and Margaret Peterson Haddix.
The 39 Clues focuses on a competition among the four branches of the Cahill family: Lucian, Ekaterina, Tomas, and Janus. So each tween took a placement test to determine what family they belonged to and received their first clue. Each clue led them to a different part of the library, a new clue, and a piece of a map. Everyone had to use their brains and their library skills (I know, aren't we sneaky?) to complete the challenge. Once they had collected all five clues and four map pieces, they had enough information to complete their hunt and locate their treasure. The answer was on the back of the pieced together map, and the treasure was at the end of the starred hallway, in station 13. Everyone who completed the scavenger hunt received a prize pack filled with items that might come in useful if you were actually on a world-wide adventure: a flashlight, compass clip, and a whistle. Plus, each of our adventurers also received a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream from The Whole Scoop, a new neighborhood ice cream shop in South Shades Crest. Special thanks to David Cohen and The Whole Scoop for supporting our readers here at the Hoover Public Library! And thanks to everyone who came to these two events! Make sure you check out the pictures!
