American Girl 2011: Welcome to My World!

Our annual American Girl party was even more popular than usual. All available spaces filled up in less than two weeks! And the waiting list was almost half as long! When the big night finally arrived on Thursday, June 30, 2011, 165 girls and parents (and almost as many dolls!) followed the stars to American Girl: Welcome to My World. This year's party was hosted by beloved librarian Miss Laura and featured four American Girls:

Kanani (Girl of the Year, Hawaii 2011)
Rebecca Rubin (New York City 1914)
Molly McIntire (Camp Gowanagin 1944)
Julie Albright (San Francisco 1974)

Kanani greeted each girl with an "Aloha" as they arrived and presented them with a flowered lei to wear around their necks (though some put them on their dolls instead). All four American Girls shared a little bit about what life was like in their worlds. Then, the three historical AGs led everyone in crafts representing their life:
Rebecca - I "Heart" NY apple magnet
Molly - firecracker headbands and star-spangled camp visors
Julie - Mad Libs with tie-dye pencils

After the crafts, it was snack time! The plates, napkins, and cups sported a Kanani-inspired luau theme. And there were three different snacks in honor of the other girls:
Rebecca - big New York style pretzels
Molly - s'mores trail mix
Julie - flower power cookies

Everyone drank pink lemonade. Why? Just because it's delicious! Once everyone had their fill of snacks and lemonade, we gave all the girls a chance to show off their American Girl dolls and take pictures with our visiting AGs.

Thanks to everyone who made this program a rousing success! We look foward to next year!
