Artist Kate Merritt Davis
Have you discovered the Friends Gallery at the Hoover Public Library? Simply take the stairs or elevator in the lobby down to the first floor. The hallway between The Library Theatre and our meeting rooms has been converted into an art gallery. Our feature artist for the month of October is Kate Merritt Davis. During the months of November and December, her art will be displayed in our Administrative Gallery.
Kate Merritt Davis is an abstract artist whose mixed-media paintings are defined by freely moving, expressive lines which give structure and a sense of place to her work. A certain serenity invites the viewer to wander into these contemplative fields, exploring the contrasts of color, saturation and texture. Kate uses a mixture of painting and drawing techniques and materials on birch panels, most of which are custom built. Kate earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Montevallo and resides in Irondale.
Kate is represented by Gregg Irby Fine Art in Atlanta, and also shows work at The Green Door in Apalochicola, FL, Kathleen's in Decatur, AL and Atmosphere in Birmingham. Recent exhibits include the group show "Four Types of Ambiguity" at Art Folk Gallery in Birmingham, and an upcoming solo exhibit is scheduled at the Eastern Shore Art Center (Fairhope, AL) in February 2013. Her work has primarily been exhibited in the southeast and is held in private collections in the U.S. and abroad.
