Book Buzz--Artsy Smartsy

Book Buzz, our book club for 2nd and 3rd graders, gathered last RAINY Monday night.  First, the Riddle Hat--"What is a cat's favorite color?" PURRRR-PLE.
Next, we shared books about art, dance, and music. Many of these were picture books where the illustrations were works of art;  most were biographies.
We learned alot but there were no tests! The rest of our evening was spent with special guest, Miss Rebecca, who guided us in telling a story through collage art. Each person was given an old picture book AND scissors. That's right, we cut the pages to use in our collage art (remember to get permission before cutting pictures from a book at home!).  The results were awesome. Click here to check it out!

The following are club member recommendations from "Artsy Smartsy":

Aziza-- Art museums are great places to find books about the visual arts. Often there are books with photos of paintings on display.
Aziza shared one of these which included several of her favorite oil paintings.

Ben--Tomie dePaola by Mae Woods; The Art Lesson by Tomie dePaola; 26 Fairmount Avenue by Tomie dePaola

Kira-- Isadora Dances by Rachel Isadora

Liam-- Who Was Leonardo da Vinci?  by Roberta Edwards (Liam read the Kindle version)

Miss Polly-- When Marian Sang by Pam Munoz Ryan

Next month, we'll finish this year of Book Buzz with "Weather or Not"--fiction or nonfiction books about the weather.
Monday, April 15, 6:30 p.m.  Stop by our book club display and pick up a bookmark with reading recommendations.
