Ho-Ho-Ho Humor in the Reader's Studio

Inspired by Santa's jolly chuckle, our 2nd-5th grade book club decided to read books filled with laughs during our December 13th meeting. Here's a list of books sure to tickle your funny bone:

Aidan = Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
Daniel = Sir Fartsalot Hunts the Booger by Kevin Bolger
Emma = Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary
Erin = The Witches by Roald Dahl
Ethan = Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
Isabella = Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules by Jeff Kinney
Jessica = Samantha Learns a Lesson by Susan Adler (American Girl)
Miss Katie Jane = The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger
Kaya = Stinky and Successful: The Riot Brothers Never Stop by Mary Amato
Lauren = Junie B., First Grader: Cheater Pants by Barbara Park
Miss Polly = Spaceheadz by Jon Scieszka
Quinn = InuYasha #6 by Rumiko Takahashi

The giggles continued as we made holiday picture frames and filled them with silly snapshots of ourselves. Thank goodness Miss Katie Jane still has her pink and grey Polaroid camera, her fave gift from her tenth birthday. Since it was the last book club of 2010, we concluded with two surprises: popcorn from Monday at the Movies and a present! This meeting was also special because we had three new people: Aidan, Isabella, and Miss Polly. We're always excited to meet new friends! We are a little sad that Miss Mary Ann will no longer be part of the Reader's Studio, but she hasn't gone far. She's simply moved to Tuesday nights, which means you'll always be able to find her at our special events, like Santa's Missing Mail on Tuesday, December 14 at 6:30 pm.

Make sure you use your holiday time wisely . . . by reading an award-winning book. Our next Reader's Studio will meet on Monday, January 10 at 6:30 pm to discuss award-winners, including the 2011 Newbery and Caldecott Medalists, which will be announced earlier that day.
