Reader's Studio Went Around the World!
It's a new year for our 2nd-5th grade book club, with a new format. While each month is still genre-based and features some excellent discussions, we've traded in our sack suppers for fun crafts. For our September 20th meeting, we all brought books from "Around the World". Here's a list of what our book clubbers shared:
1. Miss Mary Ann = First Light by Rebecca Stead (Greenland)
2. Aziza = Monsoon by Uma Krishnaswami (India)
3. Kaya = Bleach #7 by Tite Kuba (Japan)
4. Adnan = The 39 Clues # 8: The Emperor's Code by Gordon Korman (China)
5. Quinn = Dragon Ball #1 by Akira Toriyama (Japan)
6. Daniel = Number the Stars by Lois Lowry (Denmark)
7. Ethan = Disasters at Sea by Andrew Donkin (world's oceans)
8. Aleisa = Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell (United States)
9. Kelly = Cultures of the World: Greenland by David C. Green
10. Elizabeth = Webster's New World Dictionary (world)
11. Miss Katie Jane = The Elephant's Tale by Lauren St. John (South Africa)
After we talked about our books, Miss Katie Jane shared her Chilean rainstick with the group. It inspired some awesome rainstick-making of their own. Check out the pictures in our Photo Gallery.
Want to be part of the fun? Join us on Monday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. for a "Slightly Spooky" evening of books and crafts. Just call 444-7833 to let us know you're coming.
