Spring Break Follow-Up, Part I: Tangled and Percy Jackson Parties
We are halfway through our Spring Break week! Can you believe it? We've packed a lot of fun into a short amount of time. Hopefully, you were able to make it to our Tangled Up in Rapunzel party on Monday. If not, you missed one BIG party! The Birmingham News featured it as one of the top 12 things to do in the city during Spring Break. The result: 355 people! WHOA! Luckily, Miss Mary Ann and Miss Karen were super prepared.
We kicked-off with a skit based on a fantastic picture book by Leah Wilcox, Falling for Rapunzel. Kudos to our talented staff for bringing it to hilarious life! Mr. Justin wowed us with his musical prowess and voluminous shorts. Mr. Jeremy was the dashing prince. Miss Katie Jane starred as the vibrantly-tressed (and hard-of-hearing) Rapunzel. And Miss Laura was the completely adorable maid. If you missed it, have no fear! You can watch the video online.
After the skit, the kids rotated through six fun snack, craft, and game stations, all honoring Rapunzel, her glorious braid of hair, and her chameleon sidekick Pascal.
Wednesday's party, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, is based on a series of books for older readers by Rick Riordan. We opened with a Camp Half-Blood orientation with Counselors Katie Jane and Jerm, then sent all 146 campers off to train for battle. The kids had the chance to work on their javelin throws, fire a crossbolt, forge a shield, and even test drive a chariot (heavily waxed snow saucers + carpeted room = fun, fun, fun!).
Only one kid program left! Stay tuned to future blog posts to find out what happened in our library Wonderland during Spring Break!
