Starting a new year is always a great time to look back and decide which books of the year were your favorites.  A book on everyone’s must read list is from an Alabama native, John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars.  A favorite of the teen’s department, it was also named Time Magazine's best book of the year.  While not every book can be an award winner, here are a few books from the last year that we believe are worth reading and

It's our Ninth Annual Battle of the Teen Bands.  Music fans and summer readers are invited to rock out with three competing teen bands - By Royal Decree, On the Sidewalk, and Thamaturgy - on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 6 p.m.  Each band performs a 20-minute / 3-song set in front of a panel of judges and a live audience.  The winner will receive a $300 grand prize, provided by the Friends of the Hoover Public Library.  Admission and refreshments are free.

Teen literature is a favorite among many of the librarians at Hoover. Two-thousand and eleven was a year for sequels, the return of favorites and debut talent writing wonderful books for teens. Here is our list of the best;
