Join us on Thursday, July 7th at 10 am in the Adult Programming Room (back in the Nonfiction Department) for a lively discussion of Judy Blume's adult novel, "In the Unlikely Event." Ms. Blume is writing this novel from her own experience although fashioning it into an fiction novel. During the 1950's when Blume was a teenager in Elizabeth, New Jersey, three airplanes crashed in the area in the span of 58 days. With the rather new phenomenon of air flight, these crashes created fright and confusion within the community. In her novel, Blume creates the voices of many inhabitants of Elizabeth, all speaking of the tragedy and the impact on everyone's lives. Woven throughout is the story of Miri Ammerman who witnesses the crashes and is devastated by the fallout.
