Nonfiction Book Group

The library’s new Readers’ Group discussed the Best Nonfiction Books of 2016 on Saturday, January 21.  The titles presented are listed below:

The first rule of Book Club is: you DO NOT talk about Book Club. The second rule of Book Club is: you ignore the first rule and definitely tell all of your friends about Book Club! The book club in question is known as Insatiable Readers and is less like a traditional book club, and more like a bookish social club. I talked with book group leader Pam to get the inside scoop on the library’s newest group and here is what you need to know:

This month’s Insatiable Readers book group is delving into the world of Participatory Writing. This style cultivates the idea that the best way to learn about something new is to live it! The featured books this month will cover authors’ adventures and experiences from their very own “participatory year.” We will be talking about everything from Shonda Rimes’s My Year of Yes to A.J. Jacobs’s The Guinea Pig Diaries.

There’s an old saying, “Anyone who says they only have one life to live, must not know how to read a book.” Any seasoned reader can relate to that adage in the sense that a good book is not one you simply read, but one you can almost live; even if it is for just a short period of time and only in your mind.
